Hello! My name is Jess Mason and i’m a UK based freelance illustrator fresh out of Uni where i studied BA Hons Illustration (and graduated with a first!) at the University of Worcester.
Narrative Illustration is what i do best, whether that be through children’s picture books, book covers, maps or editorial work storytelling is always at the core of my practice. In May 2018 i was awarded the Otter Barry Books Narrative Illustration Prize which was great because it means someone else must think i’m pretty good at it too!
My professional career as a freelance illustrator began back in 2016 when i joined the ‘Fancy Features’ team where i have been creating giant colouring in murals for corporate events ever since, this included a commission for digital advertising giant ‘Undertone’ for the Cannes Lion film festival. In 2017 i was commissioned by Worcester Museum and art Gallery to illustrate a collection of poems for children based on Worcestershire and the Severn Valley, i have also worked on various other projects including branding, merch and giftware.
As well as this i am the founder of ‘Worcester Illustrators’ a group of people living in Worcester with a shared love for illustration, we had our first exhibition and print sale at Boston Tea party Worcester in December 2017 which was a great success.
